Public Health to Offer Free Flu Vaccine at Area Schools

Oconto County Public Health will provide free flu vaccine to students in grades 4K-12 at Oconto County schools this fall.  Students who turn in a signed and completed consent form will receive a free flu vaccine at school.  All students in these grades are eligible.  There are no income or insurance requirements and both the shot and mist are available.

Oconto County Public Health will visit the elementary, middle and high schools in Gillett, Lena, Oconto, Oconto Falls and Suring school districts as well as St. Anthony School and St. John’s School in October 2022.

“Oconto County Public Health has a great deal of experience in providing flu vaccines, as we have provided flu vaccine to students at their school since 2011, stated Debra Konitzer, Oconto County Health Officer.  “We have many protocols in place to ensure that all students will be vaccinated safely and our clinics will be run by experienced and well-trained Public Health staff.”

Parents/guardians are encouraged to visit www.ocph.info for more information including dates, flu vaccine information, and the flu vaccine consent form.

Flu symptoms can last for up to two weeks and include: fever, cough, sore throat, headache, severe body aches, chills, runny or stuffy nose, extreme exhaustion, and sometimes in children, diarrhea and vomiting.  Flu can lead to complications such as pneumonia, even in healthy children.

You can also stop the spread of flu and other illnesses by washing your hands frequently, covering your cough and staying home when you are sick.  Please call Oconto County Public Health with questions at 920-834-7000.
